4 Books for the Month of Love

Updated: Feb 10, 2022

What says Valentine's Day like a good queer romance book?

Whether you are in at least one relationship, deliberately single, or looking for love, you can find yourself falling in love with fictional love. Valentine's Day is nearly upon us, so why not curl up with your next queer icons via book? Love is love folks! Take a look below to see what you'll be flipping through or listening to next.

Her Royal Highness by Rachel Hawkins:

Millie Quint's luck seems to be on her side when she gets accepted to the boarding school of her dreams in Scotland. She is ready to jump headfirst into this school that normally caters to royals and nobles but has a scholarship spot available. Her luck slows down when she meets her roommate, a stuck-up royal girl named Flora. Tension brews between them, only made worse by the overnight wilderness survival test they have to team up for. Over time, Millie and Flora might just find that the tension between them isn't all bad.

Only Mostly Devastated by Sophie Gonzales:

The simple way to describe this book would be "Grease but make it gay". Ollie and Will met over vacation, had a summer fling, and never expected to see each other again. When Ollie and his parents stick around the area to be there for his sick aunt, Ollie ends up at Will's school. This would be a dream come true for the boys who didn't want to part, except Will isn't out of the closet. This book balances the slow-burn love story with a wonderful ensemble cast.

Better Together by Christine Riccio:

If you have ever found yourself annoyed that the parents in Parent Trap didn't get any punishment for keeping their children apart, this is the book for you. Jamie and Siri are sisters, but only one of them knows it. When they mysteriously end up at the same camp, they are forced to confront their childhoods. Jamie has been raised by her dad in California and wants to be a stand-up comedian. Siri is a former ballerina looking for her new purpose now that she can't be a dancer like her mom, who raised her. After the sisters reluctantly decided to switch places, they find what they were missing while living apart.

Late to the Party by Kelly Quindlen: Codi and her friends are quiet queer shut-ins who decide in the summer before their senior year of high school that they need to experience the typical teen life. They have no idea how to do this and all have different things they want out of the summer. For Codi, she is hesitant to join in until she bumps into Ricky, a popular guy who happens to be kissing a boy. When he takes her under his wing, she gets a whole new group of friends! As their platonic love story unfolds, Codi meets Lydia, a girl she is attracted to instantly. Before the end of this book Codi will have to face many of the relationships that are important in her life, for better or for worse.
