Books for P.R.I.D.E.

Want to do a special reading list for Pride Month? Representation in media is very important! To be able to read a book about someone like you or someone you love is validating. We're here, we're Queer, and we're filling up pages! For this Pride, why not spell the word out with books? I have a suggested list below, but feel free to comment your own!

Perfect on Paper by Sophie Gonzales:

If you're looking for the kind of bi rep for gals that shows you can still be queer even if you're dating a guy, this is a great book to read! Darcy has been running a secret and anonymous advice service for the students at her school. She gives good advice and people trust her persona. Everything changes when Alexander catches her collecting the letters from their locker. He wants to pay her to coach him through getting his ex back. As they get to know each other, they start to reconsider what they're both looking for.

The Romantic Agenda by Claire Kann:

This novel stars Joy, a black woman in her 30s who identifies as asexual! She finds herself in a fake dating scheme over a weekend getaway to a cabin. In attendance with her is her long-term crush, his own crush, and a friend of his crush. This last man is Fox, and although he is a grump, he can't resist Joy's sunshine. This novel is full of the best rom-com tropes and you can read more about it in my review:

Improbable Magic for Cynical Witches by Kate Scelsa:

This is a YA novel for the witchy and mystical gals who like other gals! This book features Eleanor, a teen living in modern Salem with a problematic past. When a guide to tarot arrives at the tourist shop she works at, Eleanor starts to learn about the cards magic. She meets Pix (a local witch) who pulls Eleanor into her world. As Eleanor begins to heal from her past, the audience sees those events through the lens of The Major Arcana. Eleanor has gone through a lot and has done a lot of things she regrets, but her future can be what she makes it. Learn more about the book in my review:

The Deep by Rivers Solomon:

Written by a non-binary author is this afrofuturistic story about mermaids, autism, and the love between an intersex mermaid and a two-legged woman. This story is a retelling of a much older story that has been retold again and again. Solomon's take on it is dark and beautiful, but provides hope in the end. I have written a great deal about this novella in an editorial review from last year. You can view that here:

The Extraordinaries by TJ Klune:

If you're interested in reading a series about gay superheroes and fanfiction, this is the book you'll want to pick up! Nick Bell doesn't have any superpowers, but he is a really great fanfic writer! After he meets a popular superhero and his celebrity crush, Shadow Star, Nick decides that he wants to get superpowers. Seth Gray is hesitant about helping Nick, but he is the fanfic writer's best friend. MLM romance and superheroes. What more could you want?
